Jerry Coleman's Nine Burner, "Jazz
Makes You Happy" (Coleman) ***

Two different nonets are featured on veteran drummer Coleman's latest Nine Burner album not to mention two different bass trumpeters, Shultz and Cy Touff. Boasting arrangements by the late Gene Esposito and Bobby Schiff, each of the little big band applies distinctively full- blooded, richly textured readings to songs in- cluding John Lewis: "Django" and Bill Stray- horn's "Blood Count.: The soloists include altoist Mike Smith, trumpeter Ron Friedman and baritone saxist bass clarinetist Ron Kolber.
