Coleman's NineBurner "Jazz Makes You Happy"( Coleman **)*
Two different nonets are featured on veteran drummer Coleman's latest NineBurner
album, not to mention two different bass trumpeters, Shultz and Cy Touff.
Boasting arrangements by the late Gene Esposito and Bobby Schiff, each
of the little big bands applies distinctively full-blooded, richly textured
readings to songs including John Lewis' "Django " and Billy
Srayborn's "Blood Count." The soloists include altoist Mike Smith,
trumpeter Ron Friedman and baritone saxist /bass clarinetist Ron Kolber.
